Check-up and Cleaning
The path to a healthy mouth begins with prevention. Regular check-ups and cleanings at least every 6 months are important in staving off gum disease, tooth decay, and other common dental problems. A check-up can spot minor problems before they become major issues, and cleanings can get rid of the plaque and bacteria that can cause these problems in the first place.
New technologies for treating gum disease have made maintaining a healthy mouth even easier. Laser periodontal therapy can remove infected gum tissue with a high level of precision, as well as kill the bacteria causing the disease. There are no stitches, bleeding or swelling, and there’s little to no pain. Ultrasonic Scalers are used during routine care and periodontal treatment to do a more thorough job with less hand scaling. Research has documented that the vibrations from ultrasonic scalers cause disruption of bacterial biofilm (plaque) that cause periodontal disease.
Non-Metal Restorations – Mercury Free Fillings
Dark metal/mercury fillings can be unsightly; they let the world know about your cavities every time you smile. Dr. Udouj uses a tooth-colored filling material that blends in seamlessly with your teeth. Not only do metal free fillings look better, but because they are bonded to your natural tooth structure, they help restore the tooth back to 80% of its original strength. Metal/mercury fillings do not strengthen the tooth and constantly corrode. The metal expands and contracts with hot and cold temperature changes and can cause teeth to crack resulting in the need for more treatment.
Porcelain or Resin Restorations – Inlays, Onlays, Crowns
Inlays, Onlays, and Crowns are bonded restorations that contain no metal and are a solution to restore teeth to ideal function and cosmetic beauty. Inlays/Onlays are porcelain or resin restorations used to replace large fillings or cavities on the back teeth. With inlays and onlays, Dr. Udouj is able to preserve more of your natural tooth structure. Crowns are porcelain restorations placed when a tooth requires full coverage protection. A full coverage crown may be needed to restore a tooth that has a large filling, crack, or fracture in the tooth.
Oral Sedation/Nitrous Oxide
For some people, a trip to the dentist can come with some anxiety, and we want to make sure your visit with us is as comfortable as possible. Two of the ways we do this for our patients are through oral sedation and nitrous oxide gas. With oral sedation, the patient takes a sedative an hour prior to the scheduled appointment in order to relax. Nitrous oxide (happy gas) is a safe, tried and tested gas that calms and relaxes patients of all ages. The patient is relaxed, but conscious and in control during the procedure.
Dentistry for Children
Childhood is the best time to begin prevention. Structural concerns can be addressed and other issues can be caught early, saving a lifetime of problems and unnecessary expenses. We also offer toothprints for your child. Just like a fingerprint, a toothprint is unique and can be used for positive identification should your child become lost or abducted. Your child simply bites down on a soft wafer, impressing into it her unique bite and recording individual tooth placement and jaw shape. You then keep the impression in a safe place, keeping your family prepared.
